One week on the road

Since my last post we have travelled up the NSW coast and into Queensland as far as Hervey Bay where we met our friends Grace and Dave. On the way up we stopped at Woolgoolga which is beautiful, then Maroochydore then Hervey Bay. There were a lot of road works going on in both Northern NSW and Queensland. The Pacific Highway is receiving a lot of attention.

We also saw many many acres (or hectares) of sugar can plantations and many other farms with bananas and macadamia nut trees. The north coast of NSW is really pretty. I think we will plan another trip to investigate it further. We stopped to make breakfast on the side of the road in Maclean which is a lovely little town, very quaint with narrow streets and lots of old buildings. All the power poles have all different tartans painted on them, as they have a Highland Gathering there to celebrate Scottish heritage.

Yesterday we went on a whale watching trip with a mob called 'Whalesong' which was fantastic. I didnt really know what to expect. We were fortunate enough to have a female whale come right up next to the boat. What an amazing experience. She cruised straight past us down the side of the boat on her side so we could clearly see her large beautiful eye! I wonder what she was thinking....  It was an amazing experience to be so close to such a wild and powerful creature. I don't understand how anyone could kill them.

She was so beautiful and so close!

We had a great time with Grace and Dave who we don't see very often as they live in western Qld in Blackall. It was great to catch up over a meal or two and some drinks.

Today we are having a relaxing time just hanging around the lovely park we are in. Its about 27° with a lovely breeze.

Tomorrow we are leaving the coast and heading north west so we won't see the ocean again till Darwin. We have no set itinerary from now on so who knows where we will end up!
